When you bring a product to market, you take responsibility for its environmental and social impact. At YOEK, the quality of our garments is one of our top priorities. It’s essential that our garments are wearable year after year. By selecting the best materials, creating great fits, and designing timeless pieces, we aim to ensure that clothing doesn’t quickly end up in the already-overfull landfill.
What we do for your garment
The majority of the social and environmental impact of a garment lies in its materials. Step by step, we are transitioning to better materials. What does “better” mean for us? It means choosing materials with certifications (like GOTS or GRS) or opting for recycled options. Even better is replacing synthetic materials with natural ones. We’ve created a matrix to score each material, so we know where we’re headed. See our matrix here.
What We’re Already Doing
Currently, we choose certified fabrics for several of our products, ensuring the fabric is controlled from raw material to finished product. For the entire product to carry this certification, the production facility must also be controlled and certified. This is a process that must meet strict requirements and can be costly for our suppliers. We are working hard to make this a reality alongside them. We want to be transparent about the materials used in our products, so you, as the customer, can make an informed choice. That’s why the materials used in our items are listed in the composition section, but without the certification – we can only communicate this once our suppliers (and our own warehouse) have passed the audit.
Our most popular material, Dolce, is made of micropolyester and elastane. It’s soft, wrinkle-resistant, retains its beauty for a long time, and is loved by our customers for its comfort. However, this material is entirely synthetic, and its manufacturing process is more environmentally taxing than natural materials like cotton or linen. We’re aware of this and are actively searching for alternatives. Part of our collection is already made from recycled Dolce. We're currently exploring whether other materials can offer the same quality as Dolce.
To focus on quality, we are reducing the size of our collection. This allows us and our suppliers to dedicate more attention to each style, ensuring you enjoy your pieces even more.
